As Evergreen Playhouse (EP) continues to create and present live theater, we desire to uphold artistic integrity, authenticity, craftsmanship, and human creativity. Theater is a collaborative art form created by people, for people, and the creative work presented by EP should reflect the skill, imagination, and humanity of the artists and production teams who create it.

Evergreen Playhouse commits to not incorporate AI-generated content or materials into its productions, performances, designs, or public-facing creative work. This policy is intended to provide guiding principles rather than an exhaustive list of approved and prohibited uses.

Guiding Principles

1. Human Creativity: The creative work presented by EP should be conceived, created, and executed by people. AI-generated creative content is not used as a substitute for the work of artists, designers, performers, technicians, or other creative contributors.

2. Artistic Integrity: EP values the creative process and craftsmanship involved in producing live theater.

3. Authenticity: What audiences see, hear, and experience should be an authentic representation of the work created by the EP production team and the artists involved.

4. Quality & Craftsmanship: EP's creative work should reflect intentional artistic choices, professional standards, and the skill of the people creating it. The use of technology should not diminish the value placed on human creativity and craftsmanship.

Creative & Production Standards

AI-generated content or materials should not be incorporated into any EP production, including but not limited to:

1. Graphics & Branding: Posters, programs, promotional graphics, advertisements, social media graphics, logos, illustrations, or other visual communications.

2. Social Media & Marketing: AI-generated images, video, audio, or other creative media used to promote the EP, its productions, performers, or events.

3. Scenic & Set Design: AI-generated designs, set pieces, scenic elements, textures, artwork, or other materials used in the physical or visual design of a production.

4. Projections & Media: AI-generated images, video, animations, backgrounds, textures, or other digital media used as projections or displayed as part of a production.

5. Costumes & Makeup: AI-generated costume designs, makeup designs, patterns, artwork, or other visual references used as production elements.

6. Props & Artwork: AI-generated artwork, illustrations, printed materials, or other creative elements incorporated into props, set dressing, or the production environment.

7. Lighting & Technical Design: AI-generated visual content or creative design elements incorporated into lighting, video, projection, or other technical aspects of a production.

8. Performance: AI-generated voices, performances, characters, dialogue, audio, video, or other generated content presented as part of a performance.

9. Written Creative Content: AI-generated scripts, dialogue, monologues, lyrics, narration, program content, or other creative writing presented as part of a production.

10. Public-Facing Creative Content: AI-generated creative material used on the EP website, social media, advertising, promotional materials, programs, or other public-facing communications.

This policy is focused on the creative work and materials produced or presented by Evergreen Playhouse. Individuals are responsible for ensuring that the final work they submit or contribute to the EP meets the standards outlined in this policy.

Additional Expectations

1. Human Ownership: Creative work presented by the EP should have clear human authorship and creative direction.

2. Originality: Designers, artists, performers, and production teams are encouraged to develop original work and draw from appropriate human-created references, research, artistic traditions, and professional resources.

3. Established EP Standards: All graphics, promotional materials, and other public-facing creative work must follow established Evergreen Playhouse branding, style, and communication guidelines.

4. Artistic Oversight: Directors, designers, producers, and other production leaders are responsible for ensuring that the creative work within their area complies with this policy.

5. Transparency: When there is uncertainty about whether a particular tool, material, or process constitutes AI-generated content, the individual should consult the appropriate production or organizational leadership before incorporating it into EP work.

Data & Privacy Reminder

This policy does not replace existing expectations regarding privacy, confidentiality, intellectual property, or appropriate use of organizational information. Individuals should continue to exercise appropriate care when using third-party tools or services in connection with Evergreen Playhouse work.

This policy was adopted by the Policies and Procedures Committee on August 29, 2026. This policy will be reviewed on an as-needed basis.
